During my many visits to Jackson Heights in Queens, New York City, I’ve discovered some wonderful old-time kiddie rides outside shops. They wait patiently for someone to insert a few quarters for a ride. Sometimes it is a very long wait. The rides include horses, a dinosaur, and an elephant.
I’ve discovered that these artifacts from the past exist in other neighborhoods, too, and in many other places around the United States. So I also have a yellow elephant from Manhattan’s Chinatown, a taxi from the Santa Monica Pier in Southern California, and a quarter horse from Amarillo, Texas.
